Insulite’s Addiction Awareness program is an important and unique systems component that greatly increases your likelihood for success in transforming your health.

The Addiction factor –Sugar and Carbohydrates

Woman looking into a refrigerator. It's Saturday afternoon and you have a thought: "I've got to get to the fridge for a couple bites of chocolate ice cream. OK, just a couple more bites. Wow, suddenly it's all gone." Whether you choose to call it cravings or addiction, you probably recognize this feeling.

What happened? We know we didn't want to go there in the first place, and suddenly, we're looking back in disbelief and guilt at an empty ice cream carton. Why don't I have more will power?

Well, it's not about will power; it's about what happens in your brain. Sugars and carbohydrates (pizza, breads, pasta) actually release the same chemicals in your brain that addictive drugs do. These chemicals give you pleasure.

Man resting forehead on his hand and thinking.Experts are now realizing that we don't have a weight problem in America - we have an addiction problem. (It's important to point out that many thin people also suffer from this same addiction. Not all carbohydrate addicts are overweight. In fact, up to 40% of all people of normal weight may be carb  addicted, and 75% of overweight individuals may struggle with carbohydrate addiction) The reason so many of us have become addicted to carbohydrates and sugars is because of the neural pathways they stimulate. It may shock you to learn that sugars and carbohydrates stimulate the exact same neural circuitry that cocaine, heroin, and alcohol stimulate. This is why when you walk past the muffin you may have similar feelings to those a heroin addict has walking past a syringe. In order to learn more about addiction/cravings and strategies to neutralize them, please watch this video.

Researchers at Princeton University studying bingeing and dependency in rats have found that when the animals ingest large amounts of sugar, their brains undergo changes similar to the changes in the brains of people who abuse illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin.

In the animals studied at Princeton, bingeing released a surge of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. It's been known that drugs of abuse release or increase the levels of dopamine in that part of the brain. Deprived of their sugar, the rats displayed signs of withdrawal similar to the symptoms seen in people when they stop smoking, drinking alcohol, or using drugs.

Your addiction to carbohydrates and sugars is primarily driven by the profound ability of these foods to stimulate your dopamine, serotonin and endorphin brain circuits. These circuits are the neurochemical pathways which produce your feelings of pleasure and contentment, as well as helping you dull both emotional and physical pain.

When a person who is addicted to carbohydrates eats carbohydrate-rich food, the body releases too much insulin. This elevation in insulin causes a subsequent drop in blood sugar, thereby generating a strong impulse to eat more frequently. Elevated insulin levels also encourage the body to store food as fat.

Over time, people become insulin resistant. That is, the cells in their muscles, nervous system, and organs begin to lose their ability to respond to insulin. Fortunately, this damage is reversible.

Addiction awareness is an essential step in developing an effective strategy to improve your health. It is a lack of awareness of the powerful forces of food addiction that makes many diets so ineffective. Some estimates place the failure rate of most diet programs at well over 90%. Without a clear understanding of how food addiction affects us, it is not possible to address the issue in an effective way. For this reason, “crash diets” that demand willpower as the driver for change rarely achieve long-term success. Instead, in the typical scenario   the dieter quits after a short time and adds a layer of guilt and self-blame to the problem.

The Insulite System is specifically designed to neutralize carbohydrate and sugar addictions

Making lasting lifestyle changes to improve your health for the long-term requires carefully designed strategies to minimize the impact of the “withdrawal symptoms” associated with reduction in carbohydrate and sugar intake. The Insulite System utilizes a combination of very gradual diet changes combined with a balanced increase in physical activity and exercise to accomplish this critical goal. To learn more about exercise and addiction please watch this video.

One of the reasons exercise is such an important, but often overlooked, component in supporting people with type-2 diabetes is that it helps to neutralize the addictive qualities of unhealthy foods. Exercise actually stimulates the same neural networks that make us crave carbohydrates and sugars. With a careful and gradual substitution of exercise, we are able to slowly transform our meaning networks so that healthy activities replace carbs and sugars as preferences. an important part of the insulite System is a carefully designed plan to gradually and permanently reduce your addiction to carbohydrates and sugars while building an affinity for exercise and other activities that have a positive health effect.

When you begin the Insulite System you will learn a great deal more about how your brain chemistry works in relationship to food, and how to transform it so that it works for you in improving your health.

"I have been on the Insulite System for approx 3 months. I have lost 33 lbs, my liver functions are normal and my A1C came back at 5.1, down from 8.03 months ago. I was taking 10 Glucovance pills daily, now I take only 2 pills in the AM. My blood sugar is normal, my energy is higher than it has been in years and I feel great. Insulite along with a change in my diet has changed my life.

I tell everyone that asks me what I have done to change my life, about the Insulite program. Your product is fantastic. I have cut out all sweets, flour, dairy and have no cravings."

"In less than 3 weeks I've started losing weight again after being "stuck" on Weight Watchers for about a year. I've lost about 4 lbs since starting Insulite but more significantly my blood pressure is well within normal limits now and I can tell my metabolism is better. I am not getting that slump between meals and am able to control between-meal snacking, and I have a lot of energy throughout the day rather than periods where I need to nap. I just ordered the 6 months supply. Thank you!"
